Today was a treat for the senses!

I tried a few different types of avocado toast for breakfast that paired nicely with my turmeric latte.  I’ve been following ##ToastySF on Instagram and I was very excited to finally try their avocado toast (#avotoast)!  They have 12 different varieties, the most popular item is the egg and avocado toast combination.  They are also now open at 7am!

I loved hearing about the inspiration behind Toasty SF.   I especially loved hearing Sofia’s story!  Sofia moved to San Francisco without any concrete plans.  She and her sister were inspired by the fresh produce at the Civic Center Farmer’s market and wanted to bring the elements of eating fresh and local to SF.

Meet the owner of Toasty SF Sofia Pinzon, as pictured below in her lovely avocado apron!  Toasty SF t-shirts will be coming soon!

Q: What is the idea behind Toasty SF?

A: I love the creativity and inspiration behind putting things together.  As a Columbian, we eat avocados daily.  I was bored of my administrative desk job and wanted to do something more creative, so I decided to launch Toasty SF.  I found a store in the Marina that was in reasonable shape to open right away and now 8 months later, we are outgrowing our store space!

Q: What are your greatest challenges and pain points?

A: We are growing and our kitchen is small.  I would love to expand into corporate catering and if so, I would love to explore renting space to cook in a commercial kitchen.  As an entrepreneur, I don’t have a boss and no one to be accountable to, so I struggle with with not having laid out tasks/goals to achieve.  As the brand grows and evolves, I am working on internal communication, training and growing the business.

It’s also tricky to find support from others who are going through the same experiences that I am going through.  I have a great friendship with a local cookie dough company.  I also started a group called Women Food Entrepreneurs to connect and share our experiences for support.

Q: How do you achieve balance?

A: I take a few days off where I don’t come into the store.  The store runs pretty well without me, so I take days off to focus on the business where I have the mental space to physically be away from the store.

Q: What would you like to focus on next?

A: I would love to expand into corporate catering and creating awareness of our brand, outside of the Marina district.  I love events and would love to do more!  I would love to have an avocado bar where people can pick and choose their own toppings.  I am also open to feedback, so please reach out with your suggestions and ideas.

A sincere thank you Toasty SF for taking the time to connect and chat with me over your amazing avocado toast.  I am so inspired by your love of putting stuff together has led to Toasty SF!
